SSC|S1E20: BUSINESS SERIES - Holley Mignosi - Story Influencer / Body Language Expert - Storytelling & Your Body What Are You REALLY Saying?

I feel like when we are not fully accepting ourselves and our past and all for the good, the bad, the ugly and all that stuff, we tend to want to rely more on our credibility. This is all the experience that I have. This is my education, this is a college I graduated from. These are all the letters after my name. This is how great I am. This is how qualified I am. These are the people I’m associated to. So you know how important I am and that’s credibility, which is really important. But then there’s this other thing with the vulnerability and if we’re not okay with what we’ve been through, we tend to hide and suppress all of that because we don’t know how to share it without falling apart, quite literally. And so we only focus on half of our greatness, which is the credibility. And there’s this whole other half that really makes us whole and exquisite and unique and important and beautiful that when we share that, it’s like if we’re not sharing that we’re only sharing half of the Lotus, you only get to see half of you that’s bloomed from the muck...

So here’s the thing about your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is your personal assistant who is there to give you the experience that you’re looking for. Whatever experience you’re looking for, your subconscious mind will give it to you - in the easiest, quickest way possible. And your subconscious mind won’t say, “Linda, are you sure that’s what you want?” - you ask, it delivers. But here’s the problem. Every single thought you have, every single feeling you have is a command to your subconscious mind.

SSC|S1E16: BUSINESS SERIES: Annie LaCroix - Efficiency vs Effectiveness For The Creative Type

So instead of thinking about ‘I need the MOTIVATION to be creative, I need the MOTIVATION to do my bookkeeping, I need the MOTIVATION to whatever’, say ‘I need the DISCIPLINE to understand that I need creative time and I need that space to not be interrupted and I need business support time and I need the space to have that not be interrupted’. And by the way, another thing I haven’t touched on here is you also need scheduled time that isn’t part of your business - creative or otherwise - you need time to say, ‘I don’t have to worry about anything today’. I can just go play with my kids or play with my dog or lay on the ground day - A FREE DAY.

...well, this is why this is... these are my insecurities, and then it blows the whole thing open and I get more laughs and I get more human. I get more grounded. I don’t have any fear on the stage and I start being able to look an audience member in the eye as opposed to like “performing”, but like I see you, I notice that you’re a Bachelorette party, I notice that you’re eating a chicken parm right now and it’s like we’re in it, in this canoe together, and then I’m vulnerable because I feel safe.

SSC|S1E9: Rosie Tran Stand Up Comic - Performing Is An Act Of Giving

It’s changing from taking to giving. So what’s the difference? So taking is ‘I need to have a good show. I need to have a good set. If I don’t have a set, I’m going to be depressed. They need to laugh at me.’ So the energy is going this way towards you. And if you do that as comedian, you’re never going to be happy. The giving is this way. So what does that mean? ‘I am joy. I am light, I am bringing joy. I’m making your day better. I’m here to fricking make you happy and give you a piece of joy for your week.’ So the energy is going out. So it’s just the shift of energy, same jokes, same material, but just a shift of energy.
